This is funny because it seems like cultures are depicting their gods or the person they look up to as the standards in their culture. we make jesus out to be blonde and blue eyed because that is what is "beautiful" or what people are supposed to look like and the same for buddha.

This is obviously a satirical comic, but it also portrays many of the concerns that minority followers may have with the depiction of an important and charismatic leader of their faith. There is strong dissension, especially among the African and Hispanic communities of the depiction of Christ as someone that looks nothing like one they could relate to on a religious or even social level. It also points to the European dominance and euro-centric focus of Christianity.
The humor portrayed in this comic is of satirical nature, which happens to be my favorite kind of funny. What Buddha is referring to is the nobody-can-depict me rules is called anthropomorphism, he attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object. Islam and Judaism are some of the religions that deem this wrong, because it can lead to idolatry. Mainly because no one knows what God, or holy prophets looked like. Kamron above me here makes a great point...minorities struggle to have a leader that resembles their ethnicity and European dominance does take a lead focus on Christianity, where most people are white.
This is funny, post more funny ones please!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely should post more funny or scary content. :P
