The Greek gods and goddesses

(left: Zeus)
hi class,

I am preparing to teach an online course in Spanish on Greek and Roman religion. I found a cool website with descriptions of the Greek gods and goddesses if you are interested; I know this is not exactly part of our course (REL2011) but some of you might find it interesting.

There are actually three different (or even more) kinds of Greek gods, the Titans, the Olypmpians and the Greek Heroes.

  4. The link was interesting and I think it provided a good summary of the major Greek gods. Although it is not a part of our course, Greek mythology is definitely relevant to the historical aspect of religious studies.

  5. Thanks for the post Prof. Holbrook! Although this topic isn't necessarily covered in class, its still really interesting to see how the back story to other religions. It was also fascinating to see how each god, goddess, Titan and hero was depicted in the various paintings. Its a great visual indicator to their role and influence upon the Greek and Roman societies.

  7. I have always liked Greek Mythology especially after taking my Humanities course in college and I found this website quite interesting. It has thorough descriptions of each Greek God. I learned cool info about Gods I already knew and also learned new ones to me such as Hera and Hephaestus

  9. Wow very cool, I never thought of Hades that way. He was always my favorite kind of Greek God back in high school. I could relate to him in many different ways.

  11. I wish that I could take a Greek and Roman religion class, your students are so lucky! I especially adore Greek Mythology, and the reference to Zeus swallowing his wife when she was pregnant with Athena, and how when Prometheus split Zeus' head, Athena jumped out in all of her battle-ready armour, definitely an interesting bit of info!

  12. Very interesting Professor, pretty much anything of the Greek Gods interest me. I'd have to say when I was younger the movie Hercules is what hooked me. I had no idea that Zeus swalled his wife though...

  16. I have never really gone into depth about Greek Gods, but i have a few friends that are fascinated with them. They all have their favorite. With the little knowledge that I did know about, I always seemed to like Aphrodite. and from what I re-read about her she is still my favorite. I liked this posts even though it is off topic, its always good to mix it up a bit.
