Nella Fantasia are the lyrics that Sarah Brightman wrote to the melody of "Gabriel's Oboe" from the soundtrack of The Mission
Bellow is the English Translation:
In My Fantasy
In my imagination I see a fair world,
Everyone lives in peace and in honesty there.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like the clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.
In my imagination I see a bright world,
Even the night is less dark there.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like clouds that fly.
In my imagination there exists a warm wind,
That breathes on the cities, like a friend.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

When we watched the Mission, I do have to admit that listening to this song brought a lot of feelings and thoughts. It's a very peaceful and pleasant song, but yet it is also very sad. Like you spoke about earlier in class today, the lyrics of the song are very fitting. It's fascinating how a melody can carry such a heavy connotation and feelings with it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful song. It cannot go without an emotional response. It is so touching and simple that in its simplicity, there is a profound amount of beauty. Thank you for sharing this Professor Holbrook.

ReplyDeleteGet ready for a long and maybe (but hopefully not) annoyingly sobby post... I did a little searching on your other blogs and found and read the one about the story of your spiritual relation to Gabriel's Oboe. Now that I've really read your history with this song and how it relates to your love and marriage with your wife (although I've heard you tell it the first time in class), I'm left in tears and in awe of your intellect and wisdom you've stirred up over the years. Your story truly tugs the strings in my heart even though I haven't experienced a personal loss before. But I don't find it a coincidence that I'm in your class this semester because there's something telling me that I'll need to recall on your example of strength, courage, and perseverance to keep finding Hope as we wander through this world, and to take it as a divine message that we are not alone.
