Australian filmmaker Mark Shea visits Sarawak, Borneo to interview the last Iban Shamen in his remote jungle hut. The Iban were the headhunters of old.
This is very cool, I never knew about Shamans until I took this course. The movie Black Robe and this video has also allowed me to learn more about them.
I never really knew about Shamans and what they were until viewing this short clip and watching Black Robe. Not only was this informative but know i can better relate to what has been taught in religion class.
Before I took this course, I really had no understanding of shamans and what it is exactly that they do. This video was informative and gave me a better understanding of Shamans.
I feel sad that this man will be the last shaman in his community. However, I am happy that someone was able to make a video about his practices and share it on YouTube for the world to see.
I find shamans to be a fairly interesting part of religion, and having this video provide me more insight into the Iban shamans practices, duties, etc. I don't find it hard to believe that it seems to be dying off when I consider the affects of globalization on religion.
Shamans are very important people in numerous cultures. They are the designated spiritual professionals that have access to both the natural and spiritual worlds. Before taking the course, I had no previous knowledge of the functions of shamans but I am now able to better understand just how important is their role within their own cultures.
Very interesting video, its truly a whole another way of looking and living a life. I wonder if anyone from another person will be willing to learning the language in order to continue the shaman iban practice.
The fact that he will be the last shaman in the village is sad because the job of a shaman believe it or not in my opinion is very important, however, I can see why not everyone can be one. This is a gift and not everyone has the characteristics to be Shaman.
