Exorcism In India | National Geographic

Uploaded on Jun 9, 2008
Down a dim corridor...in a tiny, locked room...out of bounds to all but a tormented few, is the cave of spirits...a home for the dead and last hope for the possessed.

  1. This video definitely opened my mind on how sacred powers can control someone's body. It's hard to believe such a thing when I personally never experienced it but I don't doubt it.

  2. My initial reaction towards this video was very skeptical. Initially, to me it seemed more as an act of superstition and it seemed hard to believe. However, the bible does mention the existence of the devil and the presence of several acts of exorcism. Therefore, even though the video did not seem very credible at first, it might not be that unreal

  3. Some people might think that is completely fake and those kind of things do not really happen, but as the woman said in the video, only people who have experienced these kind of acts are the ones who believe is true and not are only superstitions. Spirits, exorcisms, and ghosts have always been kind of taboo for me. Not because I do not believe in these mystics and paranormal activities, but because I prefer to just respect them and stay on the sidelines. I am catholic and I believe that God is the most powerful force, energy that is going to protect us, but I also believe in evil and other mystic energies that are around us and are unexplainable.

  4. I have never seen an exorcism being performed before besides seeing it in movies. I do believe that it is possible for someone to get possessed by a demon or an evil spirit. I was a bit skeptical to see if the exorcism would work, but it seems to have worked for a lot of people.

  5. My friend used to say she believed in demons because she thought that "for every good thing, there is something bad. Since there are angels then there must be demons too". In this video its clear to see that demons do exist but there is also a way to rid their possessions on people. It was very interesting to see how these Indians would perform the exorcism. They would have to walk to this special place to capture the demon, but during the walk they had people from the town helping them by distracting the demon through dance.

  6. I have seen various movies depict the process of an exorcism, but this is the first real exorcism I have ever witnessed. As a Christian who is a strong believer in God, I have always been convinced of the reality of spirits and demons that walk among us. This video simply added more evidence to increase my belief in possession.

  7. I am a believer of demons and spirits but I was in shock to see an exorcism in India. I'm not really familiar with the Hindu religion but these types of exorcisms are very common in the christian faith. I also noticed that the parents of the girl were very skeptical and you can see the curiosity of the town when it is happening. This shows me that it isn't very common but they're very respectful of the sacred power manifesting itself.

It is insane to think that this goes on regularly in India. I cannot picture casual exorcisms being done regularly here in my hometown, although I'm sure that there are some that believe in it and have the mental power to proceed with the procedure. I believe that possessions can be possible, only because I have not been proven otherwise.

  9. This video was very interesting. It showed a side of sacred power that many people avoid admitting exists. I personally have not had anything like this happen to me. But if in a place like India exorcisms occur consistently, then it can happen just about anywhere.

  10. What I got from this video is that the girls played a role that was expected of them from their culture, since they were having problems. Because I don't believe in demons possessing a human body and people performing exorcisms on them to expel the demons, this led me to believe that they were "playing their role" more than they were being exorcised. Because they are from a different culture from my own, they believe that this is real; and that is why they might have taken it so seriously.

  11. In the beginning I was very superstitious about all these rituals that are performed in order to release a spirit and complete a exorcism. In the media I had seen it in such a different manners that it seemed too outrageous to even have an element of truth. The process that these men took with the posessed women seems clearer And a bit More realistic. I still won't declare anything on the validity of it but I will respect it on the other side.

  12. I honestly never really believed in exorcisms. I considered them to be very superstitious. I also thought that the "victims" were suffering from hallucinations or mental breakdowns. I never took into consideration that demons could actually take control of someone's mind and body. It was very interesting to see this perspective and practice of those performing exorcisms in India. I'm interested to learn more on this ritual.

  13. Exorcisms are a real deal in this world. It is possible to be possessed by spirits and watching this short clip justifies my point. I found it slightly creepy; the thought of being exorcised that is. Its scary to put yourself in the person's point of view. Imagining what it is like to have no control over your thoughts, actions, and free will.

  14. I have never truly denied the possibility of demonic possessions, and this clip evidently shows the struggle of performing an exorcism. It can be quite eerie to think about as this is a force one cannot physically see but can feel. My question remains, why does this seem to happen so severely particularly in poverty-stricken communities?

  15. I honestly never believed in demonic possessions, but this video truly go me thinking on the possibility that such a thing may exist. I still don't understand how the exorcists know that the spirits have left the bodies of these girls. More importantly, how is a single room able to trap such demons? I don't doubt it, but I'm not convinced either.

  16. I have never denied that this could happen to one but I try to think that it isn't possible. It freaks me out to think that demons are able to get in you and take over you. I found this video to be very interesting as to showing how some people believe that this has happened to them and that they believe a room is able to take that away. I'm not saying that I don't believe that a room is able to take away the demons, I just don't understand how that could be possible. I don't think I ever will just because I video states how one doesn't understand until one has experienced it.

  17. I do not believe in demons and being possessed, but this video is very strange and makes me wonder if it all really is true.

  18. Oh my god, this looks like a great horror movie. I don't believe this is true, but instead I think it has something to do with their culture. It's very easy to confuse religion with culture.
