  1. This was a very interesting presentation! I had never been exposed to some of the rituals that you covered. I found Mardi Gras very interesting because I never knew the meaning behind the celebration.

  2. Very interesting presentation. Learning about all the different rituals in other religions and what they mean was very cool. This was one of my favorite chapters.

  3. I think this chapter was one of the most important of the book. I don't think religions would be anything today without rituals. If there were never any groups of people who repeatedly performed a certain action, what would reenforce their beliefs? How would their religion even have made it to today? Or the future for that matter? Thought this chapter was really interesting and loved how it opened me up to even more rituals, especially after going to my site visit.

  4. I really liked learning about this chapter! As a catholic I’ve actually done two life cycle rites. First I got baptized as a baby and when I was about 12 I did my first communion. What’s interesting is at the time, I had no idea I was partaking in a sacred ritual.

  5. This was an interesting chapter. I enjoyed learning about all the different religious rituals. I went to Catholic school and I too participated in early baptism and communion. I left the school before confirmation, but have realized Catholicism might not be for me. I just hope to live a good and full life and if I die one day and there is some type of God or Goddess, I know they will be understanding and merciful. If not, and I am not allowed into "paradise" because I did not complete some rite, then that is no God I wish to follow anyway. Well, that's just my rationale.

  6. Honestly besides theodicy, this has to be one of the most interesting chapters in the book. Early man started burying their dead at some point. That means that they had a ritual. They saw a significance in death that led them to start doing something about it. Something about an afterlife, something of importance. Whatever led them to start doing that, it makes a person really consider how important a ritual is. A sacred ritual is so important to being closure and to bring about change. Whole societies move around certain rituals and unite when it comes to the time of the rituals. Such a uniting event is very interesting because it is literally as old as humanity itself.

  7. This was a really interesting and useful chapter to read. All of us know what a ritual is, however, a lot of us think of it in a more narrow way, without really understanding all of its aspects and sometimes forgetting that there are different types of it. After learning this chapter, I know can tell the difference between a healing, life-cycle, and calendar rituals. Also, this information helped me to learn more about the meaning of rituals in Christianity, and the specific ones I experienced as a Catholic.

  8. As a Catholic we have many different rituals. Participating in these rituals at first I didn't understand the meaning behind them. This presentation was very interesting and it definitely helps now understand why i am doing certain things in the catholic church.

  9. In addition to what Luis said, I am also Catholic and there are several rituals that take place in the church that I did not know the meaning of. Some of the rituals of sacraments that I went through included baptism and communion. For communion, it was necessary to take classes in order to learn before the ritual. Looking back now, I was way too young to understand what was going on and now I know.

  10. The slides were a great read especially about rituals. I believe that it is important for all people of the religion to know why they are doing the rituals. They may as well not perform them because it is meaningless. People should question their religion and affirm their beliefs.

  11. These slides really helped me understand the meaning behind some sacred rituals. I noticed that many young individuals partake in sacred rituals. It's nice to know that since they've matured, they know the meaning of those rituals.
