The Last Iban Shamen

The Last Iban Shamen - Sarawak, Borneo

Published on Jan 13, 2014
Australian filmmaker Mark Shea visits Sarawak, Borneo to interview the last Iban Shamen in his remote jungle hut. The Iban were the headhunters of old.

As this is a historical piece, I have left the interview complete with both Iban and English language.

Thanks to Nicholas Mujah for organising the interview and my interpreter Ang Francesca

  1. I think it is very sad that he is the las shamen just because he believes there is no one else to continue his traditions. I don't think that is good enough reason to just extinct his believes, unfortunately he made peace with it and he knows he will be last shamen and he is ok with it.

  2. His only relief is that at least he knows he will be remembered by generations! Agree with Barbara, his traditions should've continue.
